ARMED ROBBERS ATTACKED FUNMI IYANDA, N7 MILLION 2008 CAMRY STOLEN

It was a moment of mixed-blessings for the household of Nigerian queen of the tube, Funmi Iyanda on Monday in Lagos. Funmi, who is the host of New Dawn and, of recent, Funmi's Favourites escaped death when dare-devil armed robbers swooped on her N7 million Toyota Camry 2008 model at the Western Avenue in Lagos.

The attack, which took place on the Western Avenue, saw the driver and her sister who acts as her P.A being shot. Funmi, however, escaped the gruesome attack because she was not in the car.

The driver and the young lady, as at the time of writing this report, were undergoing surgery at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) to remove bullet-pellets lodged in various part of their body.

At the moment, Funmi is happy that her people are alive to tell their stories, but unhappy that the car she recently acquired for the whopping sum of N7million has been snatched.
The incident has been reported to the police and they are still investigating.

IN a bid to sign on a first lady into the Mo' Hits family, the CEO of Mo' Hits Records, Don Jazzy and the label's Vice President D'Banj are putting together a reality TV show tentatively titled Looking for the Mo' Hits Girl. Although details of the reaslity tv show are still sketchy at the moment, Trends gathered that Looking for the Mo' Hits Girl, as the name implies will showcase aspiring female artistes in a talent contest in which the winner will bag a recording contract with Mo' Hits Records among many other benefits.

Trends also gathered that prior to the label's decision to host a reality TV show, Mo' Hits Records had attempted to sign on a budding female singer. However when she was informed that she would have to wait for a two-year period before her debut album would see the light of day, the singer impatiently left.

It was a few minutes past 2.am, local time in Lagos Nigeria.

The country’s most iconic disc jockey, DJ Jimmy Jatt was holding a cup of red wine, sipping excitedly and exchanging banters with friends. Seated at the lobby of the Night club inside Planet One hotels, Jimmy was in the mood to celebrate.

Few hours earlier, ‘Stylee’, the lead single off his career-defining mix-tape ‘Definition’ had been named ‘Best Collabo’ at the 2008 hip hop world awards. The song’s video, directed by DJ T, was also named ‘Best Music Video, at the keenly contested awards. Jatt has worked hard for all the recognition he’s getting. But everyone knows he’s not gotten all the recognition he deserves. But tonight, sorry, in the early hours of Sunday March 16, the itinerant DJ was in no mood to complain.

And it’s not just because he’s getting applause for the work of his hands. Jimmy is happy, grateful to God for sparing his life, after a very serious auto accident in the early hours of Saturday March 15.

He told me, as we stood side by side, exchanging notes, over our impression of the third edition of HHWA 2008, that ‘I’m lucky to be here. I crashed my GMC this morning. If you see the car, you won’t believe it. It’s a complete write-off.

According to him, ‘I had already gotten home the night before. I was relaxing when a call came in from some of my friends who were visiting from South Africa. They were bored, and thought I was the only one that could take them round Lagos. So I had to go pick them up. We went round, and I later dropped them off at their lodge in GRA, Ikeja. I knew I was tired, ‘cos I didn’t sleep at all the night before. But I hit Ikorodu road, driving very slowly just in case there was a broken-down truck on the way. I don’t know what happened, but I musty have dosed off. When I opened my eyes, my four airbags were out, my car had climbed a culvert, and it was an electric pole that stopped it’.

‘The impact was serious. Let’s say I was lucky to have had my seatbelt on; and that my airbag was working. God saved me; if not, we would have been saying something else now.’

Jimmy bought the GMC SUV from the US in 2005. With customized number plate J.JATT, the blue jeep has in a few years, become part of the DJ’s identity, even though he has other cars.

‘This is my first accident since I’ve been driving’, he told AyeniTheGreat regrettably. ‘And I’ve been driving since I was 14…’

Busta Rhymes and P-Square to promote peace in niger delta

One of Nigeria’s foremost hit makers P- Square is set to take the game to a new level as they team up with American hip hop musician Busta Rhymes to sue for peace in the troubled Niger Delta.
The duo told newsmen at a press conference last week that the purpose of the concert is to ‘promote peace in the Niger Delta part of Nigeria’.

‘We know there has been a lot of a similar concerts trying to promote peace in the Niger Delta over the years, and since anything P- Square does is usually unique, we have decided to join forces with Busta Rhymes to make this a reality’ Peter Okoye one of the twin commented.

The show which is being put together by North side Entertainment, an outfit owned by Jude, Peter and Paul Okoye has been tagged ‘Da independence blast’. ‘It is named ‘Da independence blast’ because the show is scheduled to hold on the 30th of September , 2008 in commemoration of Nigeria’s independence day’ Paul Okoye commented.

The event will attract actors from various sectors of the entertainment industry like comedians, Nollywood stars and musicians. ‘Timaya, J martins, 2 shotz, Black solo and Banky W will be performing.

Richard Mofe Damijo, Comedian AY, Gordons and Talkative will also be present while DJ Jimmy Jatt is the official DJ of the event’ director Jude Okoye concluded.

The show which will be managed by Howie T’s Kiss Events and will hold at the Grand Hotel, Asaba in Delta state.

Apart from jamming together on the same stage, there are talks of collaboration between the wave making twins and the American-born act.

Popular musician, Timaya, was on saturday mobbed and stripped of his belongins by youths in abuja.
The icident which took place at the eagles square, happened when when the musician came out to perform at the 2008 National Youth summit. trouble started when he was carried away by the cheers from his fans and jumped down from the stage.

D'banj! D'banj!! D'banj!!! is what I am chanting right now. This chap is multi-talented. "Fall in love" is a single from his new album "The entertainer", in which he has couple of good songs. Songs like 'Gbono fele fele', 'Suddenly', and Igwe are already banging on he airwaves. A friend said he heard from a friend that D'Banj was abducted by aliens from Venus, "they held him hostage for more than a week. Look out for more love songs". Whatever.

'Fall in love' is totally different from what we usually here from D'banj. He wrote the song, he sang it, and he is sweeping even more ladies off their feet. "Fall in love" is talking about the Kokomaster falling in love. Wait a minute. The Kokomaster is not supposed to fall in love. What is going on here? Have no fear all you Kokolettes. D'Banj recently clarified in an interview that there is no woman in his life, that it's just a song, and it's just part of entertainment... Pheeeww!!!

D'banj, we all know, sings about nothing but the 'Koko'; "singing about ladies", "Singing about women tripping for him" and, in case you've not deciphered his songs, "Sex". But now he is in love with the 'Koko'. WIth lines like "We suppose marry 'cause you don make me fall in love", he might just end with a wedding band. I can't wait for this song's video?

Sources say that the afro-pop singer whose multi-platinum selling album and heavy global demand have kept him smiling heavily to the bank made the day of all of his fans who spotted him at a local airport and gingered the singer to splash out a bag of crispy notes on his cheering fans.

The incident occurred after fans who spotted him at a local airport began to singing his praises.
